CSS Builder, iPhone, Interviews

If you’re a web developer and you find yourself dealing with a crap load of CSS files, you’ll probably find some use for this new application.  A buddy of mine fell in this pit, and needed a solution.  So, I opened up C# and whipped him up something.  It’s pretty simple.  It will build a CSS file from a bunch of other CSS files based on a build file.  It’s similar to JS Builder, which groups together java files.  It’s open source, and I’ll get a download to it soon.  If you need it now, find a way to contact me and I’ll hook you up.

Pending that things don’t continue to get in my way, I’ll be fiddling with developing iPhone applications. I got my hands on a Mac finally.

Dealing with interviews. Not the most exciting thing in the world.  Well… It really is, but I’m so massed in stress that I can’t really think of enjoying the opportunity to turn to a new page of my life. But reality is what it is… I suck at exam like interviews. Unless they’re more of an implementation project, but that’s rarely the case.

Life Altering Transitions

They. Are. A. Doozy.  I’m sure you know.

As I spent time in the Marine Corps, I watched so many young individuals leave the military with absolutely no idea where they were going in their life.  Most of them came into the military as an escape from their past;  drugs, gangs, a poor educational system, poor family support.  But, most of the time, they knew they wanted to get out of the military soon after they enlisted, and they knew that they could find shelter (sometimes) with mom and/or pop.  But what happened to them after that?  Your guess is as good as mine.  It’s been incredibly tough keeping in touch with those brothers that left the military.  But the time leading up to them getting out, they all had one thing in common – A raised eyebrow and a built-up concern from heading out into the “Real World.”

I was pretty lucky.  I was never concerned about leaving the Marines because I knew exactly where I was going – school.  I pushed hard to get the Marine Corps to release me early to send me to school, and I was awarded the opportunity.  I finished with that portion of my life, and I knew I needed another challenge.

Now, as my four years at the university dwindle and I approach my final semester, I can easily pronounce that I am definitely concerned with the thought of finally entering the work force as a college graduate.   There are so many factors that are placed on my shoulders that make my mind race around the unknown.

The killer question is, “Do I know enough?”

I’ve already starting the process of applying to companies.  I, personally, can’t wait to find out what opportunities I do end up getting.  Whatever happens, it’ll definitely be an life altering transition.

Improved Portfolio ‘Lite’ is now up!

Admittedly, this blog/portfolio probably did a horrible job for me during my time trying to find an internship.

So, in an effort to improve my odds this fall semester, I decided to create a new portfolio that is specifically for an employer.  This should work much better.  Well, let’s all hope.

I can’t believe I’ll be graduating in 5 months.  Time has flown right past me.  All of my buddies have graduated already.  My girlfriend passed her year mark with the company that she is working for (and is doing a phenomenal job).   My buddy who brought me on board to work on CourseScheduler is working on a new opportunity…

Yep, it’s time for me to be employed! I can’t wait.

Yatzee! Internship!

So, I picked up a game internship today.  Was I saving the best opportunity for last?  Well, I hope. ;)

I’ll share more information later… However small that may be.

Insomniac Games…

… was one of the many companies I applied for to internship with this summer, and actually got a coding test from. I just found this recruitment video that they put together, which is a sheer piece of excellence. I might just try to work there for free after seeing this. They have friggin royal purple walls! I would have felt right at home. (Kansas State University Colors: Royal Purple/White). Arghgledargle!

Plan B

The semester ends next Friday, and the internship outlook is looking pretty dismal.

Or is it?

Well, I’m firing up Plan B.  Which is essentially to create my own internship.  Working on a project from 8 to 5+, Monday through Friday.  I have a few ideas, and I continue to think of more ideas, but I can’t decide which route to go on selecting a project.  The plan is to create a prototype (2-3 Weeks), Seeing how people respond (Kongregate), and then transitioning it to a full blown project using a mixture of tools (likely being C#/C++).  This project will likely spill over into the fall semester, too.

Whatever it is, I need a 180 to make this summer an achievement of some sort.

Another one Bites the Dust

I didn’t anticipate finding an internship being ‘easy,’ by any means. But, damn, I just ended up hearing my voice mail messages and got one that said, “… sorry, the position has been filled.”  This was for an opportunity that wasn’t even given a chance…  I had a meeting with them on Friday.

It’s certainly not looking good for the summer.

It’s one thing to know that you ‘CAN’, and ‘WILL,’ succeed, but relying on other people giving you the ‘CHANCE’ to succeed is painful. It’s no wonder why I have an entrepreneurial spirit deep within me.

Anyway. Thought I’d vent a little. Back to my final project. ;]

Oh. You should go play on http://www.kongregate.com(Referred: Me). They have some fun flash games and a great reward system.

Marine Corps: Done, Sir, Done!

4 Years of active duty service + 4 Years of the IRR = End of Service Contract.

I don’t really know what to write.  Serving in the Marine corps has been an awesome ride.  I can’t say that I really enjoyed it while I was going through the 4 years of active service, but now that I am done with it, and I can look back on it, I’m really glad I did it.  I worked extremely hard for those that were responsible for me, and earned my stripes from very high motivation, determination, and initiative to be just an excellent, and reliable, person.

I do plan on writing something in length about my active duty service.  Hopefully I’ll do that soon, before I start to forget.

For now, I’m free with no worries of war anymore and I can really concentrate on the next ladder I’m beginning to climb. (Unless I’m drafted, god forbid)

Progression of Graphic Technology

It’s amazing for me to look at this picture. While many started their journey through the Atari, Commodore 64, and even before, this is where I started to get my inspiration.

‘Your present plans are going to succeed’

I love some reassurance during a critical, life changing, year…

Yes, I’m a bit shaken up.  I graduate in 9 months and then it’s go time.  Thank god, but yeah, I’m still really curious to know where I will end up.
